BIRDS - FARNE ISLANDS PUFFINS, HUMANS AND ARCTIC TERNS

#1 where is Farne Island??? The 1st photo is a Puffin, isn't it?
what is the other whits bird with short legs?? val

Oh so sorry, in my haste I completely forgot to name the birds how criminal! I should have done them in groups of different birds instead of just in the order I took them. I will go back and write in each description also.

The Farne Islands are only a mile or so off the coast of Northumberland which is our most north easterly county in England. If you go higher you are in Scotland. They are owned by the National Trust and we booked our holiday to coincide with the birds breeding on the islands. If you went there now they would be gone, or at least the ones in these shots would.

Yes, of course you recognise the puffins but the others with the black heads and short legs are Arctic Terns. They nest on the ground and as you walk past the nests they peck your head. You are advised to wear a hat but you can still feel the pecks through the hat.
